The Wine & Spirit Education Trust

WSET is the world’s leading provider of drinks education and qualifications. Each year, more than 800 Approved Programme Providers (APPs) deliver training in more than 70 countries worldwide, in more than 15 different languages.

One of the toughest parts of the later stages of wine education is the dreaded blind tasting test – at Level 3 and higher. In this, students must accurately assess, describe and identify a beverage without any knowledge other than a glass of it. This is a hard challenge, even if they have been trained on perfect samples. But many small-format packaging solutions do not protect fragile wines and can destroy important aromas for identifying them in just days.

For example, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc have easily oxidised aromas and flavours. Without these, they taste like something else.

That is why it is critical for wine schools to train students, and for them to practice, on accurate reference samples. ecoSIP manufacture “calibration tasting kits” for the WSET’s Level 4 (Diploma) in Wine students, allowing them to try many wines, side-by-side, without having to buy and open full bottles. We also are manufacturing WSET Level 1-3 in Wine sample sets for students to study remotely, via Zoom.

Furthermore, our team are able to source wines to request, so we are a one-stop-shop for WSET. They can specify an exact wine, or just ask for a varietally-correct example of a wine and we will source this, buy them at trade prices (providing useful savings) and fractionalise them into sample kits.
